How this neighborhood remembers change

1950s

The market rebuilds after war

After wartime destruction, the central market returned as a livelihood base for residents and displaced families.

1960s–70s

Commerce and culture concentrate downtown

Markets, theaters, restaurants, and Myeongdong streets made the area a commercial and cultural center for inland Gangwon.

2010s onward

Hillside memories become a walking route

Community projects connected the market, Mangdae alleys, and Yaksa Pass while preserving the scale of the old center.
